"Expressing counselor empathy through the use of possible selves." Journal of Employment Counseling, Sept 2001 v38 i3 p128 (6 pages).
Abstract:  "The construct of possible selves, which represents the multifaceted aspects of an individual's self-concept, is proposed in this theoretical article as a means by which employment and career counselors can extend greater empathy to their clients. The construct of empathy is reviewed first, followed by the construct of possible selves. Possible selves are suggested as a means to encourage greater perspective-taking by both the client and the counselor, which reflects a greater empathic process."

The review of literature is divided into 5 major categories: (a) theoretical and conceptual advances, (b) career counseling and development of identified populations, (c) assessment in career counseling and development, (d) career counseling programs and interventions, and (e) resources for the professional development of career counselors and vocational psychologists."
"Web-Assisted Career Counseling." James J. Kirk. Journal of Employment Counseling, Sept 2000 v37 i3 p146 (14 pages).
Abstract:  "For the past 20 years counselors have used computer-based career information systems to assist clients with career planning and job hunting. Much of the same this information is now available on the Internet and can be accessed without the aid of a counselor. Such developments are likely to have a major impact on employment counseling practices. This article outlines selected Web-assisted counseling issues that are likely to affect counselors over the next few years and summarizes the career services currently available on the World Wide Web."
