Click on "Find Occupations." Type in the appropriate career (use a very broad term like "computer" or "medical." Choose the correct result. Here the sites gets kind of unwieldy. Instead of giving you all the information on one or two pages they break it up. And make you click on "Snapshot" and "Details" to get all the information.

2000 Metropolitan Area Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates
From the Librarian's Index to the Internet: "Data on employment and wage estimates for over 700 occupations in the United States. "These estimates are available for the nation as a whole, for individual States, and for metropolitan areas; national occupational estimates for specific industries are also available." The major content is in Tables Created by BLS (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). Each occupation includes SOC (Standard Occupational Classification) code (linked to definition of occupation), title, number employed, and mean and median wages."
