Finding Business Information



There are printed materials in the Library loaded with business information.
In the Library look for Dictionary of Accounting Terms (REF 657.1 S54 1987), Dictionary of Financial Terms (REF 658.15 M67 2000), Fortune Encyclopedia of Economics (REF 660.2 H46 1993) and Hoover’s Handbook of American Business (REF 660.2 H69 1994). Additional books can be found in the general stacks from call numbers 651-669.

There are also four databases on the Internet. Passwords - Some databases require passwords. You must be a student or instructor at Mildred Elley to access these. Contact a librarian by either calling 786-0855 ext. 230 or e-mailing library@mildred-elley.edu.

1. The first place to look is Gale's Expanded Academic ASAP. Password required. Type in the Password. Click on “Proceed.” Enter the search terms you are looking for into the text boxes. If you need help searching this database please read Help using Gale or get the handout "Using Gale's Expanded Academic Index" in the literature racks outside the library.

2. The second place to look is Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe. Available only from campus. Click on “Business.” You can choose one of the following categories: Business News, Company Financial, Compare Companies, SEC Filings & Reports, Industry & Market, Accounting, or Directories. 3. The third place to go is EBSCO through the Colonie Public Library. Password required.
Scroll down the page and click on:
Type in the password. Click on “All EBSCO Databases.” This is the top link. Click in the textboxes next to the following databases to select them: (NOTE: some of them may already be selected.)

Click “Enter.” Before you type in the search term click in the “Full Text” checkbox. Enter the search term and click on “Search.”

4. The fourth place to look for business information is the Business Resources Guide from Mildred Elley.
